5 Ways to Upcycle an Old Shirt through Crafting
Old t-shirts are often left discarded in closets, forgotten, and taking up an inordinate amount of space.
Give your old shirt some love by turning it into something awesome! If you are in need of ideas on how you can reuse and recycle your old shirts, check out these amazing shirt-crafting ideas
- Put some embellishments
One way to make your old shirt new is to put some embellishments! Summon your creative genius by sparkling some crystals, beads, or paint on your shirt to give it a new look! Do not be afraid to experiment with your embellishments. You can practice your inventiveness and create a statement shirt expressing your creativity.
- Dye it to perfection
If you are the kind of person who wants to make it simple, you can try dyeing them. This craft is ideal for solid colored shirts, especially whites. Choose a color of your liking and set up your workspace. You can create different designs like stripes, polka dots and spiral patterns – it all depends on how you like it.
- Make a Necklace out of it
Jewelry doesn’t need to be sparkly. Create a statement piece by using your old t-shirt as the main component. To do this, cut the shirt into strips and stretch them until they are thin. Once you are done loop them over to match the seams. Cover the strips with other seams until they are all covered. Stitch the end to ensure that the strips hold just fine.
- Create a shag rug
Want to replace your old rug? Then gather a couple of your old shirts (5 -10 shirts would be fine, depending on the size that you want) and put them to good use. Cut the shirts into strips and braid them. Once all the braiding is done, you can start to coil them to form a circular rug. Lastly, sew the ends to ensure that the braided and coiled shirts do not detach.
- Go for pillow shirts
Want something to make your bed more interesting? Create pillow shirts! Cut away the sleeves and collar (if applicable) of the shirt and cut it into a square. Next, close the upper part of the shirt by sewing it. Leave the bottom part open so you can insert the pillow or stuffing (feather, cotton, etc) in. Once you stuff the pillows, you can close the bottom part by sewing.
Remember that everything can be reused and recycled. By using your creativity, you can make something unique and amazing and turn old stuff into new things.
